Journalist Nawal Ali, stripped near-naked last week by a hired NDP mob on her way to an English course at the Journalists' Syndicate, raising a poster of Interior Minister Habib al-Adli marked "Fire Him", 1 June 2005. The black clothes and the white ribbon are two distinct but complementary protest symbols thought up by Cairo University professor Heba Ra'uf Ezzat and English teacher Ghada Shahbandar.

"Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, president of the Integrated Care Association, emphasised that the Egyptian woman always proves that she can take on responsibilities in the face of difficult conditions, as soon as she is offered a little help," al-Ahram, 2 June, 2005.
